Planning non-surgical lifting on a visit to Seoul

By Dr. Young Jun Kim, Medical Director, Violacell Plastic Surgery · Board-certified plastic surgeon (Korea)

Book the consultation before you travel, allow at least one unhurried day for examination and treatment, and leave a few days afterwards before important events, photos or a long flight. Ulthera and Thermage usually involve little downtime, but Sculptra and Re2O are typically given as a series of sessions weeks apart, and results from all of these develop over months, mostly after you have gone home. Violacell Plastic Surgery is on the third floor of 138 Dosan-daero, Gangnam-gu, about four minutes on foot from Exit 1 of Sinsa Station, and can be reached by phone, WhatsApp or LINE.

This page sets out the practical side: what to arrange before the trip, how much time each treatment needs, and what to plan for after treatment and after you fly home.

Before you travel

  • Contact the clinic in advance. Booking ahead is requested. You can call, email, or send a message through WhatsApp or LINE; the options are listed on the clinic page.
  • Describe your main concern and your dates. Say which treatments you are asking about and how long you will be in Seoul, so the visit can be planned realistically.
  • Ask about language. The clinic's official website is in Korean. Ask ahead how the consultation can be held in a language you are comfortable with. Some visitors bring a companion who speaks Korean.
  • Ask whether treatment can follow the consultation on the same day. Do not assume it; the plan is decided only after examining your face.
  • Gather your records. List previous fillers, threads, fat grafting, energy treatments and surgery, with product names, areas and dates if you have them. For earlier Ulthera or Thermage, the shot or pulse count and the areas treated are useful.
  • List your medicines. Include blood thinners and supplements that make bruising more likely, and any allergies. Do not stop a prescribed medicine without advice from the doctor who prescribed it.

How much time each treatment needs

TreatmentTime at the clinicCommon after-effectsWhat it means for a trip
Ulthera / Ultherapy PRIMETypically about 30–90 minutes, depending on areas and pain controlRedness and mild swelling for hours to a few days; tenderness, especially along the jaw, can last longerOne visit; results develop over 2–3 months, after you return home
Thermage FLXTypically about an hour or moreRedness and warmth that usually settle within hoursOne visit; firming develops over about 2–6 months
Re2ORoughly ten minutes of injection, after numbing cream, as Dr. Kim describes itSmall raised bumps and redness, usually settling within the dayAround three sessions 3–4 weeks apart give a fuller effect; one session can already help
SculptraAsk the clinic for an estimate for your areasSwelling, tenderness and possible bruising for several daysUsually a series about 4–6 weeks apart, so it spans more than one trip or a long stay

Sculptra and Re2O on a short trip

Treatments given as a series do not fit neatly into one short visit. The options are to plan one session per trip and continue on later visits, to stay long enough for a second session, or to choose a different approach that suits a single visit. Ask at consultation whether a single session would be meaningful for your face, and how the next session would be timed.

After Sculptra, massage helps spread the product evenly while it settles; a commonly used routine is about five minutes, five times a day, for five days, which can be done in a hotel room. Follow the specific instructions you are given. The early fullness on the day of treatment is mostly water and fades within days; the real change develops over the following months.

After treatment, while you are still in Seoul

  • Heat and alcohol: avoid saunas, hot baths and intense exercise for a short period, as advised. After Re2O, Dr. Kim's column advises avoiding alcohol, saunas and smoking for about a week, and no makeup on the day of treatment.
  • Sun: protect treated skin, especially if you are sightseeing for long hours outdoors.
  • Plans: keep the first day or two free of photos and important meetings in case of swelling, bumps or bruising.
  • Sedation: if sedation is used, you will need someone to take you back to where you are staying, and you should not drive afterwards.
  • Contact early: if something seems wrong, such as increasing pain, spreading redness or a lump that is growing, contact the clinic while you are still nearby.

Flying home

These treatments do not usually require a long stay, but it is sensible to leave at least a day between treatment and a long flight. That gives time to notice any early reaction and to return to the clinic in person if needed. Ask the clinic about your specific plan before booking flights.

DayOpening hours
Monday to Thursday10:00–19:00
Friday10:00–21:00
Saturday10:00–17:00
Sunday and public holidaysClosed

There is no lunch break. Korean public holidays, such as the Lunar New Year and Chuseok periods, can close the clinic for several days, so check your dates when booking and confirm your appointment time before visiting.

After you return home

  • Ask before you leave how to send questions or photos to the clinic, and how quickly to expect a reply.
  • Keep a record of what was done: device, areas, shots or pulses, and for injectables the product and amount.
  • Judge the result at the right time, not in the first week. Device results usually show over about two to three months.
  • If you notice sudden pain, pale or dusky skin, or any change in vision after an injection, seek urgent medical care locally at once, then let the clinic know.

If surgery comes up

Sometimes the examination shows that sagging has gone beyond what a device or injectable can correct. Dr. Kim's practice at Violacell is non-surgical, and he does not perform surgery there. He will explain which operation the findings point to and why, so you can plan it separately. Surgery needs a much longer stay, with time for healing and follow-up. See the guides to the mini facelift, facelift and forehead lift.

Why it matters who plans it

On a short visit there is often one examination to get the plan right. Dr. Kim starts from which layer has changed rather than which treatment was requested. He trained in facial surgery at Chonnam National University, where he was a clinical professor, plans Ulthera from the ultrasound image and palpation, and pairs Thermage with Re2O when the skin itself has changed. He will also tell you when a treatment is unlikely to help. Why Dr. Kim for Ulthera, Sculptra and Thermage

Limits, risks and who should wait

Travelling does not change the medical side. Every treatment carries risks, from swelling and tenderness to rare nerve irritation or burns after devices and nodules or vascular complications after injectables, and some people see little change. Treatment is generally postponed during pregnancy or breastfeeding and with active skin infection in the area, and Thermage is generally not used with a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device. If your schedule is very tight, it can be wiser to have the consultation on this trip and treatment on a later one than to rush a plan.

Common questions

Can I have the consultation and treatment on the same day?

Ask the clinic in advance. The plan is decided only after examining your face, and some treatments or pain-control options need preparation, so same-day treatment should not be assumed.

How many days should I allow in Seoul?

For a single Ulthera or Thermage session, allow the treatment day plus at least a day or two before a long flight or important event. Sculptra and Re2O are usually given as a series weeks apart, so they need a longer stay or more than one trip.

Will I see the result before I fly home?

Usually not the final one. Ulthera and Thermage results develop over months, and Sculptra builds gradually after each session. Early swelling can also make the face look different in the first days.

Is the consultation available in English?

This website does not describe the clinic's language support. Ask in advance by phone, email, WhatsApp or LINE how the consultation can be held in a language you are comfortable with.
